Whole House Audio Meant to be heard, not seen We'll tell you right up front that it's difficult for us to be completely objective in this area, because we are just crazy about how fabulous living in a home with a well designed whole house audio system can be. We love to listen to music, and find it to be one of the most usably enriching things you can do to create a wonderful vibe in a home. Whole house audio is all but certainly the system which has the most options, and without a doubt the most room for artistic interpretation. The common equation begins with distribution, which means speakers, speakers, speakers. Put speakers in as many places as you could possibly imagine wanting to listen to music. For the record, just because certain people at this company still use BIG, FLOOR STANDING speakers in their dedicated listening areas, the Sound Design Systems philosophy is absolutely that beautiful music is meant to be heard and not seen. (If that is what the homeowner wants). You can't make music emit from a speaker that doesn't exist, but the options today for in-ceiling, in-wall, and on-wall speakers are so varied and so good that's it's hard to imagine we can't find a way to make a system as seamless as possible. Your HVAC system still has to have cold air returns, and we believe that we can make speakers far more invisible than that! Zone control gives you the ability to use the central source to provide different listening options selectively in different areas throughout the house. On the source side, it only stands to reason that the more sources you have, the more flexibility you'll create in how many different things you can listen to in different locations. The iPod has clearly been a revelation in the way that people store and listen to their music, but Hi Fidelity music servers predate the iPod, and we think that of all the many cool devices in the A-V world today, these are the coolest. Most of these devices are now cross-compatible with your iPod, and if you have a sizeable music collection, this is a must-have component for your system. New technologies like XM Satellite Radio are also wonderful and diverse sources for whole house audio. If you're into music, you're in luck. This is our sweet spot. |
